Rhodes

Is a Greek island approximately 18 kilometres southwest of Turkey in eastern Aegean Sea. It is the largest of the Dodecanese islands in terms of both land area and population.

Throughout its long history the different people who settled on Rhodes left their mark in all aspects of the island's culture: art, language, architecture. Its strategic position, at the meeting point of three continents, brought to the island great wealth and made the city of Rhodes one of the leading cities of the ancient Greek world.

Historically, Rhodes was famous worldwide for the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Colossus of Rhodes was a large statue of Helios, the Greek god, and was erected on the island between 292 and 280 BC. Before it was destroyed, the statue stood over 100 feet high, which made it the tallest statue in ancient times.

Rhodos, is indeed the island of Sun, sea and sand, but it is also the island of culture and diverse civilizations .

The medieval Old Town of the City of Rhodes has been declared a World Heritage Site. Outside of the city of Rhodes, the island is dotted with small villages and beach resorts,

Tourism is the island's primary source of income.
